Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Lead - Banking
This role is responsible for driving reliability, resilience, automation and operational excellence across enterprise infrastructure, spanning both on-premises datacentres and cloud platforms. Working closely with Infrastructure Engineering, Operations, Security and Architecture teams, you will embed SRE principles into the organisation while building and developing a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish, build and lead the Site Reliability Engineering function.
- Recruit, mentor and develop a high-performing team of SRE engineers.
- Own technical reliability across enterprise infrastructure platforms.
- Define and implementSRE best practices including:
- Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
- Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Error Budgets
- Reliability Reviews
- Operational Readiness Assessments
- Toil Reduction initiatives
- Drive improvements in monitoring, observability, automation and platform health.
- Champion Infrastructure as Code and automation across infrastructure services.
- Work closely with Infrastructure Engineering, Operations, Security, Architecture and Automation teams to improve service reliability.
- Lead operational resilience initiatives, incident reviews and continuous improvement activities.
- Participate in change governance and support major incident management where required.
- Promote blameless post-mortems and continuous learning across engineering teams.
- Develop reporting, governance and metrics around reliability and platform performance.
Required Experience
- Extensive experience in a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) leadership role within large enterprise environments.
- Proven experience building or maturing SRE functions and engineering practices.
- Strong technical understanding of enterprise infrastructure including:
- Compute
- Virtualisation
- Storage
- Networking
- Public Cloud platforms
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or Ansible.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools such as Git.
- Hands-on technical capability with the ability to support engineering teams during complex technical issues.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working within highly regulated enterprise environments.
Desirable Skills
- Financial Services or Banking experience.
- Knowledge of operational resilience frameworks and regulatory environments.
- Experience with modern automation tooling and platform engineering practices.
- Industry certifications across infrastructure, cloud, virtualisation or Kubernetes technologies.
