Mater is one of Australia’s most established and respected healthcare providers, with a legacy that spans more than a century. Mater has grown from a single private hospital into a comprehensive health network that delivers care across multiple hospitals, health centres, research institutes, and community services.

The talent acquisition team at Mater was keen to increase their baseline knowledge of AI, understand HR and TA use cases to unlock the benefits of AI whilst understanding and mitigating risks.

The challenge

As Australia’s healthcare landscape undergoes rapid transformation driven by population growth, an ageing demographic, increasing demand for integrated care, and advances in medical technology, Mater stands at a pivotal point. Its dual role as both a leading care provider and a hub for world-class medical research requires innovation and ongoing learning.

Mater sought to partner with a global expert in AI within the specific context of HR and TA.

The masterclass modules

Mater's team was interested in exxploring how to elevate AI, but also understanding key risks. The following two modules served as the core of the masterclass: 

1. AI Advocate: Understand the opportunities to elevate the TA service offering through innovative, safe and value-adding AI

2. AI Sceptic: Understand the risks and considerations associated with the deployment of AI in HR and TA.

The solution

The AI for HR Masterclass equipped Mater with a clear, practical, and research-led pathway to understand and harness the power of AI across the Talent Acquisition (TA) value chain.

Designed to be both accessible and rigorous, the programme demystified complex concepts and translated them into meaningful, real-world applications. The curriculum was carefully crafted to reflect the most pressing issues in TA today, from the rise of candidates using AI to enhance their applications, to the accelerating pace of technological change and its implications for fairness, transparency, and decision-making.
