Coming back to reality after months of travelling the world can be daunting, especially when you don’t have a job lined up for your return. Financial Accountant Aidan was faced with this obstacle as he was about to embark on a 5-month trip travelling through Australia, New Zealand & Asia.
Aidan finished serving his notice period at his previous role in 2022 when he reached out to Robert Walters. Looking to make a new recruitment connection ahead of his travels, Aidan was introduced to Robert Walters consultant Luke Cullen.
“Luke reached out to me and asked about my situation. We had a brief phone call where I explained I would be going travelling soon. He took my CV and promised to catch up in a couple of months’ time.” says Aidan. From here, Luke set his focus on finding the ideal role for Aidan to resume his career in the Insurance sector.
“Working as a Financial Accountant in the Insurance sector, I was going to be leaving a good job in a good company to go travelling.”
“My main goal therefore was to come back and find an equivalent position which would allow me to jump straight back into the industry without any setbacks to my career.”
Luke’s personal touch and genuine interest in Aidan’s journey became apparent and made all the difference at the start of the recruitment process, peaking Aidan’s interest. “For me, Luke showed a personal touch I’d not seen from other recruiters,” Aidan says, “…two months later wrote to me to ask how the travels were going."

Travelling whilst interviewing for a new job did not come without its challenges - juggling virtual interviews with unreliable internet connections and schedules with time differences alongside the strain of financial pressures. “I would be coming back from travelling penniless, so there was a pressure to have a role lined up as soon as possible.”
Aidan’s worries were soon relieved when he was presented a portfolio of job specs that matched exactly what he was looking for. Luke had teamed up with fellow Robert Walters consultant Tallia Beagle to help source a range of appealing roles. The positions offered a perfect blend of similarity to his previous role, whilst also offering something different with opportunities to gain new experience.
“Their willingness to work together and share roles really made me feel that they wanted to find the best role for me, and not just to place me anywhere. The roles they came back with fit the bill exactly.”
Thanks to Luke’s determination to find the right role, Aidan was promptly given the choice of two attractive job offers. After some consideration, Aidan made the decision to decline the first job offer; Luke honed his efforts to get a second offer on the table for Aidan.
“Luke was very supportive of my decision to decline and did not try to change my mind or put pressure on me to accept. He continued working on other roles and soon enough, we got a second offer which I gladly accepted. I was very happy with this aspect of the process.”
Luke’s knowledge of the field, entire understanding and support paired with Robert Walters’ collaborative nature provided a seamless transition for Aidan to return to his career after travelling the world. Aidan’s success proves that the most daunting of tasks can be executed with ease when given the right expertise, support and guidance.
