Engineering, supply chain & procurement recruitment update 2017

The recruitment market in Ireland for the first half of 2017 within supply chain and procurement continued to be very active. Companies are continuing to recognise the value in hiring procurement and supply chain planning professionals in relation to the cost saving and efficiency they can bring to each organisation, resulting in a more buoyant market than 2016.
In relation to supply chain and procurement we are witnessing the highest demand for procurement candidates, in particular within the engineering, technology and pharmaceutical sectors. This would encompass procurement managers, buyers both senior and junior, along with sourcing specialists. Within supply chain, there was an ongoing need for supply and demand planners with strong forecasting skills, as well as both operational and logistics personnel, with the FMCG and food industry having the greatest need for these personnel.
The recruitment market in engineering continues to gain momentum in 2017. There has been a large increase in demand from the construction industry for engineering related positions at all levels, particularly quantity surveyors, civil and site engineers along with project managers. There has been a steady demand for engineers in relation to pharmaceutical and FMCG organisations, with particular emphasis on mechanical and electrical qualified candidates.
The engineering market has expanded at pace since the beginning of the year, especially within construction where the majority of companies have recruitment needs at all levels throughout the organisation. The candidate pool is limited, and greater effort is needed to attract candidates back to Ireland. We have seen a continued demand for engineers within the water industry with various infrastructure projects nationwide.
