Senior Server Engineer - Dayrate

A leading international insurance group is seeking an experienced VMware & Windows Server Administrator to support and enhance its enterprise infrastructure estate. This is a hands-on contract opportunity for a technically strong infrastructure specialist who thrives in secure, highly controlled environments and is confident operating as a senior escalation point.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing and optimising virtualised infrastructure and core Microsoft services, ensuring high availability, security compliance, and operational resilience across the estate.

You’ll work closely with internal teams and third-party providers, acting as the Level 3 escalation point while driving continuous improvement across infrastructure, patching, and resilience frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and optimise VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi environments

• Manage and support Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server platforms

• Act as escalation point for complex infrastructure issues

• Execute and document monthly control activities across:

  • System currency & patching

  • Resilience & high availability

  • Security hardening (CIS-aligned)

  • Vulnerability remediation

  • Backup & recovery validation

  • Capacity & performance planning

• Drive remediation of technical debt

• Support disaster recovery planning and testing

• Collaborate with MSP and security teams to maintain compliance standards

Required Experience

• 3–5+ years’ experience in VMware & Windows Server administration

• Strong experience with:

  • VMware (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi)

  • Active Directory & Group Policy

  • Windows Server environments

• Patch management and vulnerability remediation experience

• Backup & recovery oversight

• Scripting knowledge (PowerShell preferred)

• Familiarity with ITIL frameworks

• Experience working within regulated / financial services environments

Desirable

• VMware (VCP) or Microsoft certifications

• Exposure to load balancing technologies (F5, NetScaler or similar)

• Experience operating in a financial services control environment
