Head of Commercial Finance - Semi State

A well known semi state organisation is looking to hire a Head of Commercial Finance which is a newly created and vital position for the organisation to guide the commercial strategy. This position requires strong commercial acumen, expertise in revenue strategies and scenario analysis while also playing a key role in tendering. Salary for this role is €85,000 - €90,000 plus benefits and only requires one day per week in the Dublin office.

Key responsibilities of the Head of Commercial Finance

  • Collaborate with the Head of Business Operations Control and senior leadership to develop, refine, and implement strategic financial plans in relation to the commercial business
  • Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of strategic initiatives, providing insights and recommendations to enhance profitability and achieve long-term objectives
  • Develop business cases for capital investments, including conducting investment appraisals
  • Conduct scenario planning and analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with the strategic plan and propose adjustments as needed.
  • Perform comprehensive financial analyses to support decision-making processes, including cost benefit analysis, scenario modelling, and risk assessments
  • Develop financial models to evaluate the financial impact of various business strategies and initiatives
  • Collaborate with finance team cost experts for periodic cost review and cost building for tendering
  • Provide strategic insights based on financial analysis to support decision-making for commercial contract tenders.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Work closely with department heads to establish realistic financial goals and monitor performance against budget.
  • Manage energy usage planning initiatives to optimise resources and reduce costs
  • Identify and communicate potential financial risks and opportunities in a proactive manner.
  • Evaluate, enhance, and implement financial systems to streamline processes and improve data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to identify and implement technological solutions that support financial planning and reporting requirements.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies to continuously improve financial systems and processes.
  • Prepare and present financial reports for senior leadership and the Board to highlighting key insights, trends, and recommendations
  • Communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner, making recommendations for strategic actions

Key requirements of the Head of Commercial Finance Semi State

  • Accountancy qualification with at least 5-year post qualification experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct scenario planning.
  • Proven experience in strategic financial planning, financial modelling, and analysis
  • Familiarity with investment appraisal techniques and business case development
  • Ability to think strategically and translate financial data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is essential for data analysis and presentation purposes.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems for financial analysis and reporting.
