56 per cent of professionals working in used their full holiday entitlement during 2010 according to a recent global survey by recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

The survey reveals that 56 per cent of Irish respondents used 100% of their holiday allowance, 37 per cent used 75%, 6 per cent used half of their allocated holiday leave and 6 per cent took just 25% of the annual leave they were entitled to.

Ireland had the highest percentage of respondents who used their full holiday allocation, followed by New Zealand with 55 per cent. Similar trends were witnessed in Germany, the U.K and the U.S.

Countries where professionals took none of their holiday entitlement at all in 2010 included China (14%), Switzerland (17%) and the United States (23%). This compared to Ireland where 0% of respondents took no leave at all.

Louise Campbell, Managing Director at Robert Walters Ireland, says:
"Holiday entitlement is a benefit that has increased in recent years, as many organisations have been unable to offer salary increases due to financial constraints. The majority of Irish employers encourage their staff to utilise their annual leave in order to maintain well being and reduce burn-out levels in the midst of challenging economic times”.
